Steeped in history and nestled amidst the lush landscapes of Tasmania, Strathmore Gardens stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of its past. Built in 1826 by Samuel Bryan, an entrepreneur from Dublin, the estate flourished with the aid of convict labour; birthing not just a home, but a thriving community. The ingenuity of its construction shines through in every detail, from the majestic garden wall – ingeniously heated by channels from the gardener's fireplace – to the lake which is joined to the Nile River by a mill race.

Over its 200-year history, the property’s beautiful gardens, lake and buildings have provided a backdrop for treasured memories. Now, Strathmore Gardens is being revitalised to set the scene for countless more celebrations and magical moments.
Strathmore Gardens’ new custodians are in the process of creating new gardens and using updated environmental practices to move towards organic inputs and reduced water use. Meanwhile, a vegetable garden, cut flower beds, bee hives and fruit trees will be integrated into events based on season and availability, and buildings will be restored to become boutique guest accommodations.

We’re delighted to announce Markki as our exclusive events partner. With a passion for food and shared moments, Markki began its journey in a cozy home kitchen in Waterloo, before blossoming into a prominent catering enterprise in Sydney, and then finding its home in Tasmania.
Markki embraces a comprehensive approach to events, collaborating closely with clients on everything from styling to catering, ensuring each occasion is truly remarkable.

Strathmore Gardens is located on the lands of the Palawa in Lutruwita/Tasmania. We pay our respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community and their Elders past and present. We also pay respect to the traditional custodians of the lands, seas, ecosystems and species that support life on this planet and acknowledge their vast and valuable knowledge systems.
